Four Foods You Should Measure For Weightloss

While I strongly encourage that people avoid calorie counting to lose weight if possible because it can lead to obsessive behaviors, I do think it’s important to know what a serving size of high calorie foods looks like.

If you’re trying to lose weight but it’s not happening, figure out if you’re eating high volumes of calorie dense food like:

  1. Peanut butter

  2. Cheese

  3. Granola

  4. Nuts

While these can all be considered “health” foods with health benefits, these foods are also high in calories.

🥜 Have you ever measured out two tablespoons of peanut butter? I’d bet that it’s significantly less than what you’re loading on your bread.

🧀 Cheese is so delicious, but do you know what a one ounce serving looks like? Do you want to guess how much your cheese plate or pizza has?

🥣 What about granola? A serving is usually 1/4 cup- that’s essentially a sprinkle of granola. Half a box or bag can easily fit into a standard size bowl if you eat it like cereal. That’s how I used to eat it! That’s an easy 1,000 calories of granola!

🌰 Nuts? Delicious, and can provide a lot of nutrients, but if you don’t know what a portion looks like, you may easily be putting down four donuts or a pizza worth of nuts. 😅 I’d rather have the 🍩- what about you?

❗️Measuring out these foods a few times JUST to understand what a portion is can be beneficial if you’re trying to lose weight.

You CAN eat “too much” of healthy foods…especially if they’re highly palatable and high in calories.

Weighing or measuring food should be a short term tool. In this scenario it’s a great one to understand what you’re eating if you feel like weight loss is stalling.
